This was taken just a few days before. Notice his skin and sunken eyes. He was very malnourished when he first came and was on a feeding tube for a while. I read up on the pigment problems and this is common for kids with kwashiorkor (the fancy word for lack of vitamins due to malnutrition). He was treated with cortisone and hefty doses of vitamins. Although not gaining a lot of weight yet, he is developmental right on target...even crawling! We love when we get updates because the translation is hysterical. Our favorite quote: "Him loves to be held and cries when adults put him down!" Well, "him" will get certainly get held for sure!!!
